With
the improved telecommunications and computer systems
of today, businesses in north-east Iceland have
extended their operations to distant parts of
the country e.g. to the capital of Iceland and
even to other countries.
Northeast
Iceland is a constituent part of a fibre optic
network that encircles the whole country. At present
three out of every four Icelanders own computers
and over 75% of the population from 15 to 75 years
old have access to the Internet either at home,
work or schools, which is considered a world record.
Computer skills are also prevalent and hence it
is immaterial whether the operation is situated
in Akureyri, Husavik or Tokyo.
